The steel cutting ceremony for the new jack-up vessel Boreas was performed at the Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Shipyard in China.

Van Oord has ordered this new offshore installation vessel to further strengthen its market position in offshore wind. The Boreas can operate on methanol and will be capable of transporting and installing the next generation of 25 MW wind turbines.

The investment is in line with the increasing global demand for offshore wind farms. This green vessel with a very low C02 ffotprint is expected to enter the market in 2024.

"Offshore wind is a key contributor to achieving climate change targets around the world. Since our initial involvement in wind farm installation in 2002, we have become a frontrunner in this industry" as stated by company officials on media handle.
